Grasso Wins Burr Ridge Mayor Race, Will Return To Office

BURR RIDGE, IL - Former Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso is also the future Burr Ridge mayor. Grasso had 63.16 percent of the vote (1,488 votes) with 100 percent reporting according to the Du Page County Election Commission at 10:30 p.m. Current mayor pro tem Zachary Mottl received 36.84 percent. An additional 700 votes for Grasso in Cook County and 213 for Mottl only confirmed the outcome.

Grasso previously served two terms as mayor and in 2018 ran unsuccessfully for Illinois attorney general.

“I always had great confidence in the people of Burr Ridge to rise above the campaign that Zach put forward,” Grasso told the Chicago Tribune Tuesday night.

"I'm humbled to return as your Mayor and return the Board Room to civility," Grasso said in a thank-you to supporters Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Mottl said he believes Grasso's name recognition made the race an uphill battle for him. "I think I did everything right," he told the Tribune.

In the unopposed race for Burr Ridge village trustee (since voters were to choose from three of three candidates), in DuPage County Tony Schiappa got 1,491 votes, Albert J. Paveza 1,311 and Joseph T. Snyder 1,331.
