Burr Ridge May Back Off Truck Stop Protest

Neighbors oppose the development. A village reversal would be a big help to the business.

BURR RIDGE, IL – Burr Ridge is considering withdrawing its opposition to a planned truck stop outside its boundaries.

Residents near the proposed QuikTrip truck stop object to it. So far, an online petition against the proposal has drawn nearly 2,500 signatures.

If the village reverses itself, that could benefit QuikTrip in a big way.

As the closest town, Burr Ridge's formal opposition means the truck stop would require the support of three-fourths of DuPage County Board members. Without the village's protest, the business would only need a simple majority.

The truck stop would be in an unincorporated area at the southwest corner of 91st Street and Kingery Highway (Route 83). It would require the demolition of the strip mall that includes Young Cleaners, 7 Star Quick Shop, Hala Hookah and Damascus Falafel.

On Monday, the Burr Ridge Village Board is set to vote on whether to direct its staff to prepare a resolution withdrawing the village's opposition.

Recently, QuikTrip formally requested the board pull its original June resolution. The business said it addressed the village's specific objections.

Among other things, the business eliminated the proposed parking on the west side of the lot, which is next to houses. At the same time, the fuel pumps would remain there.

In its proposal, Quik Trip removed a car wash, added a right-turn deceleration lane on Kingery Highway and eliminated the left turn from the southern exit on the highway.

It also agreed to add light shielding on all its poles and landscaping between the development and houses on Carrington Circle to the west.

Earlier this month, the Burr Ridge School District 180 board also adopted a resolution opposing the truck stop.
