BRMS Boys Track Team Wins School's First Conference Championship

The Burr Ridge Middle School boys track team members won the school's first conference championship in history at the SDEAA Conference Meet May 8.

The boys track team has brought home the school's first-ever conference championship. On May 8, the Chieftains, coached by Victor Hernandez, traveled to Lemont High School to compete in the Southeast Dupage Elementary Athletic Association Conference Meet. 

The boys dominated the field and running events by finishing in the top three in eight of 12 events.

Kylen Pettis, Tobias Wells, Robert Hall, and Michael Smith crossed the finish line of the 4 x 100 meter relay in 51 seconds. Kylen Pettis and Michael Smith’s speed and agility helped them finish in first and second place, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles.

The Chieftain girls placed fourth in the conference. Kyla Hunter, Mauriah Harris, Essie Sanders, Emeeleta Painsil, Kyra Riley and Imani Williams placed in the top three in field and running events.

"The success of both the boys and girls was very exciting for Burr Ridge Middle School faculty and student body alike and will be built upon for next year," said Superintendent Tom Schneider in a media announcement about the win.

"This was one exhilarating season where hard work and dedication by the athletes was met with both personal and team rewards for their efforts. We could not be prouder of our Burr Ridge Track team of 2012," said Schneider.
