Burr Ridge Named No. 8 Best Place to Start a Business in Illinois

Low unemployment and a high median annual income helped Burr Ridge earn a top spot on the NerdWallet list.

Burr Ridge is the eighth best place to start a business in Illinois, according to a recent study.

Consumer finance site NerdWallet used census data from 285 places in Illinois to measure an overall score based on two main factors:

  • Business climate: average revenue of businesses, percentage of businesses with paid employees and businesses per 100 people
  • Local economic health: median annual income, median monthly housing costs and unemployment rate

At No. 8 on the list, Burr Ridge is sandwiched between No. 7 Elk Grove Village and No. 9 Northfield.

Here’s what the report had to say about Burr Ridge:

In this well-to-do Chicago suburb, unemployment is second lowest of the top 10, at an impressive 2.7%. The median annual income is the second highest, just under $105,000. The quiet community about 19 miles southwest of Chicago’s downtown area has several major retail areas in addition to office and industrial parks. The village straddles the DuPage-Cook county line. Depending on where your business is, you can access resources through Choose DuPage or Cook County Bureau of Economic Development.

The study found Burr Ridge’s population of 10,615 people supports 2,110 businesses, and the average revenue per business is $1,866,314.
