Burr Ridge Solicitor Activity Jumps After Hailstorm

BURR RIDGE, IL – Burr Ridge police are reminding residents to check permits before speaking with door-to-door solicitors.

This is in the wake of a recent hailstorm that brought an increase in door-to-door solicitor applications in the village. Those requests have come from contractors offering roofing, siding and related repair services.

The police department said all solicitors operating within the village are required to obtain a valid permit and comply with solicitation regulations outlined in a village ordinance. According to the village, permitted solicitors should be carrying identification and documentation issued by the village at all times.

Police are encouraging residents to ask to see a solicitor's permit before engaging in any discussion or transaction. The department also advised residents to verify the legitimacy of any contractor before agreeing to services and to avoid making immediate decisions under pressure.

The village said residents have the right to decline any solicitation. According to the village, "No Soliciting" signage must be respected by all permitted solicitors.

Police asked residents to report any suspicious or unpermitted solicitation activity.
