BURR RIDGE, IL – The estimated cost for Burr Ridge's new Village Hall has risen by 25 percent.

The new estimate is at $7.5 million, up from $6 million, officials said.

Burr Ridge plans to build an addition to the next-door police station for the new Village Hall.

At Monday's Village Board meeting, Village Administrator Evan Walter said the Village Board's building requests were among the reasons for the hike.

But the village's architect is also recommending some items be included in the project, which is the biggest cost driver, Walter said.

The items include replacing:

  • The on-site generator. The new one is expected to be a quieter, more efficient model.
  • The 911 tower. This includes moving it from the property's northeast corner to a more secluded spot.
  • The known problems with the HVAC systems.
  • The roof with an appropriately colored product.

These are needed projects and must be done at some point, Walter said.

"We do construction once. We don't reopen walls three years after we construct the new addition," he said. "It's not because we're putting in marble tile. It's because we want to do things right from a construction perspective."

Mayor Gary Grasso and trustees supported the changes.

"The price of $7.5 million is something that we will be able to fund without borrowing," the mayor said.

The village hopes to go out to bid for the project in July.

In August, the Village Board is expected to choose a contractor, with completion slated for next July.

The current Village Hall is under contract for $2.7 million with a preschool chain.
