Cat Dispute, Gunshots Heard: Burr Ridge Cops

Neighbors have differences over cats walking around. Cats accused of killing a bird.

BURR RIDGE, IL — In recent days, Burr Ridge police handled cases involving a cat dispute, gunshots heard, a mysterious "Help" sign and a man with $6 to his name, among other things. Check the latest police reports:

Cats

  • A resident on Roanoke Court told police Oct. 21 that his neighbors had cats that kept walking around his yard and killed a bird. The resident wanted an officer to speak with the neighbor. The neighbors on Kraml Drive said the cats are feral and that they do not own them, but feed them occasionally.

Gunshots

  • A person in the 9100 block of Drew Avenue reported hearing gunshots from the southwest about 9 p.m. Oct. 20. An officer checked the area, but could find no obvious signs of criminal activity. The officer suspected the shots may have come across the Des Plaines River.

Suspicious

  • An officer spoke with a woman at a business at noon Oct. 21 on Harvester Drive about a message in painter's tape reading "Help" in the window. The woman said the tape was put up by her boss as a joke. She said she would tell her to take it down when she came back from lunch.
  • An officer saw a light colored SUV about 3:30 a.m. Oct. 20 at Village Center. After the officer made a U-turn to investigate, the driver of the SUV sped away south on Lincolnshire and then to Chasemoor. The officer lost sight of the car.

  • On Oct, 21, a man told police that a trucking company in the 16W400 block of South Frontage Road flew him in for a job offer and then did not hire him, leaving him without a way home to Texas. He said his ex-wife was looking into getting him a flight, but he needed a ride to the airport. He said he only had $6 and that he would try to have his ex-wife get him a cab.
  • A man with an Audi on Village Center Drive on Oct. 22 had a dead battery and was helped by an officer, who jumpstarted the car with a battery pack. The man said he and his company were impressed because a Burr Ridge citizen and even youths on bicycles offered to help.

Odds and ends

  • A resident in the 7900 block of Deerview Court turned in two guns, along with his FOID card, Oct. 19 in connection with a domestic battery case.
  • The owner of Complete Truck Sales, 15W740 N. Frontage Road, reported one of his trailers was stolen about 12:30 p.m. Oct. 20. A Burr Ridge officer answered the call, but told the owner that the business was in unincorporated Burr Ridge and that he would call the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.
