Five Seasons Burr Ridge Hosts 4th Annual Fall Spartan Challenge on Oct. 4th

All proceeds from the event support the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Men and women of all ages are invited to participate.

What do you call a variety of events that put your cardiovascular health, overall strength, muscular endurance, as well as mental toughness, to the test?

At Five Seasons Family Sports Club in Burr Ridge, that combination of grueling endeavors is dubbed the Fall Spartan Challenge. From 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4th, the club at 6901 S. Madison is hosting its 4th Annual Fall Spartan Challenge.

Open to club members as well as guests, the event fee is $50, with all of the funds benefiting a local breast-cancer charity group.

Activities in the past have pushed competitors to the limit on a number of fronts, with exercises incorporating kettlebells and free weights, as well as cross-fit and cardiovascular components. Some of those activities may or may not be part of this year’s event—the list of eight to 10 exercises will be revealed at the event, said Five Seasons Fitness Director Erik Knowles.

“That makes it a fair challenge to all, because it prevents some people from getting an undue edge by gearing their training specifically to the challenges we create,” Knowles said. A former Navy rescue swimmer who has participated in strongman competitions, Knowles will be presiding over the event again this year.

“This is one of my favorite days out of the whole year because it’s a fun, creative way for people of all ages to apply the strength and fitness that they have developed,” Knowles said. “It’s also great to see how much encouragement competitors offer to one another.”

Check-in for the event begins at 8 a.m., with the Challenge starting at 9 a.m. Afterward, the club provides a free lunch where awards will also be given for the top three male and the top three female competitors.
