Hinsdale Nurse Named 'Nurse of the Year' 2014
Nurse Manager Robin Alvarado is honored as "Nurse of the Year" 2014 for her influential role in improving the patient experience.

A nurse manager at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital was named ”Nurse of the Year” in the first annual award from Press Ganey.
Robin Alvarado was nominated by her peers through an application process that included a patient testimonial, CEO recommendation and documented care improvement, according to an Adventist Midwest Health news release.
With the help of her team, Alvarado has developed an action plan focused on transparency, accountability, proactivity and recognition.

“I thank my staff for the opportunity to work with them and implement these changes,” Alvarado said in a statement. “It has truly been a collaboration – from every nurse to my wonderful nurse director, Lynn Wagner, to our chief nursing officer Shawn Tyrrell. I am blessed to be working here at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital where we strive to make a positive difference with every patient, every day.”
The overall perception of care and nurse communication scores for Alvarado’s unit moved from the 20th and 6th percentiles, respectively, to above the 90th percentile for both indicators, according to the news release. These results and other documented improvements led Press Ganey’s Chief Nursing Officer Advisory Council to choose Alvarado for the award over other nominees from across the country.

Alvarado is also a finalist for the 2015 Nurse.com Nursing Excellence Gem Award, to be awarded May 8.
