Cruz allegedly admitted that he had been drinking “before he took a nap.”

The assistant public defender told the judge that Cruz has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from a university in Mexico.

The prosecutor said that Cruz had never had a driver’s license. He also has a 2011 DUI conviction.

Bail was set at $25,000. The judge also ordered random drug testing.

“You’re done drinking,” Judge Felice said, “before you kill yourself, your family or some innocent bystander.”

Cruz is due back in court May 23 in Bridgeview.
