Municipalities have an advantage that other public bodies do not – a number of major sources of income. They get sales taxes, a share of state income taxes, fees and fines.

Additionally, Burr Ridge has plenty of retail, so sales taxes help the village a lot.

The area town with the most retail is Oak Brook, where the village has no property tax whatsoever.

This year's Burr Ridge property tax levy amounts to $1.3 million, just like recent years.

Most of the property tax money is being dedicated to the village's police pension account.

At Monday's Village Board meeting, trustees unanimously voted for the administration's recommendation of no increase to the levy. Trustee Joe Snyder was absent.
