SALON HYPE SAFETY STANDARDS FROM HEAD TO TOE; At Salon Hype it's all about chemical free, environmentally safe products from shampoos to base coats

Ask The Stylist - Ross Bartolomei, owner, Salon Hype makes his salons a chemical-free zone

I recently had a client ask me, “with all the talk about ammonia free hair color, how safe are nail salons?” Here at Salon Hype we are actively eliminating products that contain harmful ingredients as new alternative products with safer ingredients become available. If you’ve ever read the list of ingredients on a bottle of polish you’d be amazed. The list of harmful ingredients is long and often unpronounceable and sometimes reduced to initials. Have you ever heard of toluene? The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) is on the record saying it causes kidney and lung problems, and can be harmful to pregnant women. Toluene is found in nail glue and most nail polishes, but we use toluene-free polishes, like Zoya. An ingredient you’ve no doubt heard of is formaldehyde, which causes cancer and all sorts of breathing problems and is used in NAME. Then, there’s MMA and EMA which are found in acrylic nail products and primers. These can cause loss of smell, Asthma, and other respiratory issues. We’ve also learned that continued use of products with these ingredients can lead to nail infections. Truth be told, many hospitals won’t allow staff to wear acrylic nails because they can transmit infection.

When it comes to pedicures, Salon Hype does not use jets in our soaking bowls, and we haven’t for years. Jets cause infection and can harbor dangerous bacterias. As a business owner and father, I am adamant that I will not sacrifice the heath of our staff, clients or my family. So, walk into your favorite nail salon with your eyes wide open. If you see a pedicure soaking bowl with jets, you should turn around and walk out. Salon Hype is dedicated to finding and using premium products that are safer for our environment and everyone we come in contact with. Here is another clue, if the price of a nail service is to good to be true, it likely is! And, if you see a nail tech wearing a mask, then you should ask to wear one, too.
