BURR RIDGE, IL — Burr Ridge plans to spend about $650,000 to resurface nine village streets this year. Officials said they are targeting the streets that need the work the most and were last upgraded in the early 2000s.

At this week's Village Board meeting, Trustee Al Paveza got an assurance that the spending would have no impact on the village's general fund, which pays for the village's day-to-day operations.

Village Administrator Doug Pollock said it would be paid for with gas and hotel taxes and not affect the general fund. If the money was not spent on streets, he said, "it would just sit there."

Trustee Zach Mottl said he had received a lot of complaints from residents that their streets failed to make the list.

"I received photos of Elm Street and other streets. They look pretty bad to me, and they're not on the list," Mottl said at the meeting, in which officials were connected remotely. "It sounds like there are more roads that need attention."

David Preissig, the village's public works director, told the board that all the streets are rated every two years.

"Certain parts of Elm Street look a little bit worse than others. As an overall street, from Plainfield Road to 60th Street, it's rated a little bit better than the ones we have been doing lately," he said.

Elm Street was last resurfaced in 2008, Preissig said, while the village is focusing on those that were last done in the early 2000s.

Trustee Guy Franzese noted that Erin Drive was the only street on the Cook County side of the village that was slated for improvements. He did not say whether that was good or bad.

The Village Board voted 5-1 for the road program, with Mottl dissenting. The village chose Huntley-based Schroeder Asphalt Services.
