The last couple of election cycles involved their share of drama.
In 2021, Trustee Zach Mottl sought re-election, but lost to Mayor Gary Grasso's allies. In the two years before that, the board repeatedly reprimanded him.

Also in that election, resident Steven Mueller challenged Grasso's re-election petition. A committee of Grasso's allies rejected the challenge, but the mayor later took the unusual step of suing Mueller.
In 2019, a village committee disqualified Mueller as a candidate, citing problems with his petition.
In that election, Grasso won in a landslide over Mottl. The two remain adversaries, although Mottl has maintained a lower profile in recent months.
Grasso's term expires in 2025.
