Village of Burr Ridge Offers Holiday Lighting Safety Tips

The Village of Burr Ridge has offered a few safety tips for safely using holiday lights.

1. Use only lights that have been tested for safety, look for the testing label on the cord.
2. Examine lights for old, broken or cracked sockets, and frayed wiring. Discard lights that are not in good shape.
3. Never use lights on a metallic tree. They can become electrically charged and shock someone.
4. Always turn off tree and decoration lights when you leave the house or go to bed. Lights can short out and start a fire.
5. Do not overload extension cords.
