Water, Sewer Rate Hike for Burr Ridge Residents

Residents will see a 5% increase in their water bills starting May 1.

BURR RIDGE, IL — Burr Ridge residents will see an increase in their water and sewer rates starting May 1 as a result of increased rates handed down to the village from the city of Chicago. Villagers who live in DuPage County will be affected by the water bill increase, but not an additional surcharge for sewer service, Chicago Tribune said. The increases come as party of Burr Ridge's new spending plan, which was approved Monday.

Steve Stricker, village administrator, told Chicago Tribune that the Burr Ridge water rate increase is fueled by an upcoming 2.5% increase that the city of Chicago will charge Burr Ridge and other localities. The remaining 2.5% will go directly into funding village projects and covering expenses.

Stricker added that sewer rates will also increase for for Burr Ridge villagers who live in Cook County for the first time in over a decade. These residents will see a $5 rate increase in the flat rate due each billing cycle. The sewer fee increase will not affect Burr Ridge residents who live in DuPage County and get their sewer service from DuPage County or the Flagg Creek Water Reclamation District.
