Leaders are comparing the disruption of changing residents’ official addresses against spending up to $100,000 to replace road markers, while also pushing for better training for utility locators.
   

• ‘Today we did see a couple of dogs smile': Hearts of Hancock Humane Society installs first piece of canine environmental enrichment project (wgem.com) — In Carthage, the Hearts of Hancock Humane Society has just installed the first platforms for its new Canine Environmental Enrichment Project, funded entirely by local donations. Volunteers say the equipment is already helping shelter dogs burn energy, ease anxiety, and show off their personalities, which they hope will make them more adoptable as additional features like swings are added soon.
   

• Rest easy Cato, Hancock County Sheriff's K-9 passes away after neck injury (muddyrivernews.com) — Carthage and Hancock County residents are mourning K-9 Cato, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office dog who died after a neck injury during a training exercise at Nauvoo Grade School. Officials say Cato was rushed to a Keokuk veterinary hospital but did not survive, and they’re asking the community to keep her handler, Deputy Milo Koechle, and fellow deputies in their thoughts.
