1. 2025: Urbana School District 116 administrators rank 228th highest in state for average salary (chambanasun.com) — Administrator pay in Urbana School District 116, which serves much of Champaign County, now averages $126,691, slightly above the statewide average and up 3.3% from last year. With about 104 students per administrator versus 136 statewide, the district maintains relatively low ratios even as Illinois reports thousands of unfilled teaching roles and a growing number of vacant administrator positions. 
2. One hospitalized with injuries, man arrested after stabbing in Champaign (wcia.com) — Champaign Police say a man was arrested on preliminary attempted murder charges after a stabbing Sunday afternoon in the 200 block of East University Avenue. Officers found the victim with a potentially life-threatening wound, but hospital staff later determined the injury was not life-threatening, and the person remains hospitalized in stable condition as the investigation continues.
3. Champaign School District parents voice concerns at 'Listen and Learn' event (wcia.com) — Parents in Champaign's Unit 4 School District spent Saturday sharing concerns and ideas with Superintendent Geovanny Ponce at a "Listen and Learn" session, focusing heavily on special education, accessibility, and language barriers. Families described challenges with adaptive sports, playgrounds, and translation support, while Ponce urged continued participation ahead of another listening event Tuesday at Stratton Academy.

Champaign County's lowest premium gas price recorded at $4.74 for week ending Aug. 15 (chambanasun.com) — Drivers around Champaign County saw the lowest reported premium gas price at $4.74 per gallon for the week ending Aug. 15, with a countywide average of $5.30. The report, based on GasBuddy submissions, notes that prices remain volatile due to global oil markets, refinery issues, and seasonal demand.
5. Two-time defending regional champ Spartans return hungry team (wcia.com) — A Champaign County boys' soccer powerhouse, St. Joseph-Ogden, is chasing a third straight regional title as the new season begins. With two top scorers returning and players training hard even before official practice, the Spartans open their campaign Monday, August 24 against Oakwood, aiming to build on just five losses over the past two years.
