1. Champaign Co. Regional Planning Commission announces move-in date for new building (wcia.com) — Champaign residents who use Regional Planning Commission services should prepare for a brief service disruption as the agency moves from the Brookens Administrative Center into its new RPC Center at 2107 S. Neil Street in late October. Most programs will resume there after Oct. 30, with more efficient space and lower overhead expected to free up resources for community services.
   

2. Person hospitalized with 'potentially life-threatening' gunshot wounds after Champaign shooting (wcia.com) — A person suffered potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds Monday evening near the 2500 block of West Springfield Avenue in Champaign, and police say the investigation is still unfolding. This is the second shooting in two days, following a Sunday incident near Eureka and State Streets where a 40-year-old man was grazed and later released from the hospital. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
   

3. Digitization grant to help preserve Air Force base history (news-gazette.com) — Champaign County residents will soon gain easier online access to rare historical materials from Chanute Air Force Base, thanks to a $5,000 digitization grant awarded to the Champaign County Historical Archives at The Urbana Free Library. The project will preserve fragile audio and video documenting Rantoul and county military history, culminating in a 2027 public screening at the Urbana library auditorium.
   

4. At Rooted Pathways, language and culture are part of the therapy (news-gazette.com) — In Champaign, Rooted Pathways Counseling and Consulting is being honored with a Business Leadership Award at this week's Immigrant Welcome Awards for its culturally and linguistically responsive therapy. The practice centers immigrant and multilingual clients, offers services in several languages, collaborates with local groups, and accepts Medicaid to reach underserved Champaign County residents while planning more outreach and workshops in the community.
   

5. Parkland, Lake Land colleges receive $9M in grants for advanced manufacturing programs (wandtv.com) — Parkland College in Champaign is receiving $6 million in state grants to expand biomanufacturing and metal fabrication training, part of a $9 million package shared with Lake Land College. The funding will support new construction, facility upgrades, and equipment, aiming to open more advanced manufacturing career paths for Champaign-area students and workers as Illinois grows its Manufacturing Training Academies program.
