Channahon Laundromat Open for Business

Sharon Evans owns , a local dry cleaner last week. More than a year ago, she approched building owner Mark Ritter with an idea to expand the business. It was not that the dry cleaner needed more space. Rather, she wanted her business to do double duty - as a dry cleaner and laundromat.

Bubbles Laundromat is tucked back in the same location as C & C Cleaners and has been open for a year.

“It just made sense to me to share the space,” Ritter said. “If customers are doing their laundry and they need something dry cleaned, they are already there.”

Ritter said he had read and seen where cleaners and laundromats go hand-in-hand and thought he would give it a shot.

Other businesses in the strip mall on Eames Street also have found the laundromat beneficial. employees just walk a couple doors down to wash linens and towels used at the daycare facility, Ritter said.

Bubbles offers five coin-operated washing machines and five coin-operated oversized capacity dryers. A customer can potentially use all the machines at once, which cuts the time drastically than if it was done at home. 

The cost to operate both the washing machine and dryers are $1.25 per cycle, Ritter said.

The commercial appliances may not be as glamorous as home machines which offer multiple washing and drying settings. But, the washing machines at Bubbles offer basic wash types plus an option to choose water cycle temperatures. The dryer cycles are also basic, yet they still get clothes dried in a timely manner.

When using the laundromat, customers may prefer to bring their own laundry detergent and fabric softener to deposit into the machines. Ritter said there also is a machine that sells detergent, bleach and fabric softener. 

There is a soda machine available as well, but there is no television.

And if a customer needs change for any of the laundromat services, Ritter said there is an ATM machine in the building for customers to obtain funds.

Tables are available for piling clothes on and for folding.

While this is the only laundromat located in Channahon, its not the only one in the area. The Clean Machine is located in downtown Minooka on Wabena Ave.

Bubbles Laundromat is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sundays, the business is closed.
