Attorney Defends Mullen's Seat on Minooka High School Board

Michelle Mullen's seat on the school board called into question over a potential conflict of interest.

In recent days, the Minooka Community High School board has wrestled with a Shakespearean-like question: Conflict or no conflict?

Michelle Mullen, elected in April, has hired an attorney to defend her seat on the board in the face of suggestions she has a conflict, according to a report in the Bugle Newspapers.

The report outlines how Mullen is a tenured teacher for the Grundy County Special Education Cooperative and how she would have a vote on financial and personnel matters that could affect the GCSEC.

Her attorney said in the report she has no conflict of interest.

"We feel strongly there's no conflict of interest," stated John Izzo in the Bugle Newspapers report. "I feel once the State's Attorney and the Attorney General—and once the community is aware of the facts—they will understand."
