Basketball Excitement Expected in Channahon This Year

One week from today, Families of Faith Christian Academy will tip off its 2013-14 high school basketball season. The Screaming Eagles are coming off two straight disappointing boys seasons while the Lady Eagles will be entering only their third season.

The Eagle boys are paced by 6'8" senior center Josiah Blan who led the Eagles last season with 21 points and 15 rebounds per game. Junior guard Cody Blan also returns. Cody averaged 13.8 points 3.2 assists a year ago.  Joining the two Blan cousins will be senior transfers Cody Kern and Brandon Coleman.

The Lady Eagles are entering only their third season and hopes are high. After a one win inaugural season, the Lady Eagles reeled off 10 wins last year led by freshman guard Desiny Villalejo. Villalejo led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 18 points per game. The Lady Eagles hope to replace the rebounding lost with the graduation of Hannah Bestler with the additions of senior Alli Willis and eighth grader Carla Marrero.

"The last two seasons have been kind of disappointing for our boys", said FOFCA AD Kenton Ayers. "We felt we had good talent, the boys just never came together as as team. But, we're hoping this year changes that."

The Eagle boys went 12-14 two years ago and 15-16 last season. Families of Faith participates in the South Shore Christian Conference (SSCC) for varsity sports and the Eagles are expecting to contend for the SSCC West Division title this year.

The Eagle boys tip off on Thursday the 14th at Parkview Christian in Yorkville. The Lady Eagles will open their season November 18 at Westlake Christian in Grayslake. Both teams will open their home campaigns on Friday, November 22 when they face off against SSCC rival Victory Christian Academy from Valparaiso, IN.
