CHANNAHON MEMORIAL TREE WALK

In 2011, the Village of Channahon opened the Memorial Tree Walk to provide an opportunity to memorialize family and friends by planting a tree in their memory.  Each tree is marked by a plaque indicating the person in whose memory the tree was planted and by whom.  The designated tree then becomes a living tribute which will continue for generations. 

The second purpose of the Walk is to provide a place for residents to stroll down paths and observe the types and growth habits of trees known to do well in our area.  The tree walk, as it matures, will then become a small arboretum to be enjoyed by Village residents.

The Village set aside the northeast corner of the Village Hall property for the Walk.

TREE CHOICES

There are many species of trees from which to choose.  Each variety of trees has been designated for a planting site on the tree walk site plan to ensure the best light and water standards for each species. 

Pricing of a tree varies by the species of tree selected and market conditions at the time of its purchase.  Trees purchased for the walk will be a minimum of 2 inches in diameter.  Please contact Village staff for pricing details. 

PLANTING & TREE CARE

The purchase and planting of a selected tree will be arranged by the Village staff, along with the placement of the plaque.  The maintenance and tree care will also be provided by Village staff. 

It is our hope that over time as these trees begin to mature we will all have the opportunity to enjoy a stroll through the shaded paths created by them, and be thankful for those who have chosen to remember their loved ones in a way that can be enjoyed by all. 

The first step is to fill out the Memorial Tree Walk form located in the brochure.  Staff will contact you to arrange for the purchase of the tree and ordering of the plaque.
