Illinois Library Snapshot Day @ Three Rivers Library!

On Wednesday, April 13^th, libraries across Illinois participated in “Snapshot! One day in the life of Illinois Libraries,” in an effort to highlight the impact libraries have on their communities. The Three Rivers Public Library District’s two locations both participated in the event highlighting the various services provided by the Channahon and Minooka staff.

The Channahon location, led by Miss Julie, as they do most Wednesdays throughout the year, hosted a morning and afternoon Story Hour for 3-6 year olds, a fun-filled event with stories, music and crafts.  Following the program, both the children and parents enjoy browsing for books, movies, magazines and music. 

At both locations, numerous patrons were in looking for their tax forms, particularly in light of the fact that forms are no longer mailed out by the government. Our free public access computers, as always, also received a hefty workout that day from job seekers, students, genealogists and recreational users. Staff from both locations assisted patrons in faxing documents, making copies, notarizing materials, finding reading materials, (both for fun and research,) and provided members of the library’s book clubs with the necessary books. Staff also assisted patrons over the phone with downloading books and music from the library website. Minooka staff also proctored an exam for an area student and answered some local history questions.

As staff assessed what was a very typical, average day at the library, we were astounded by what we so very often take for granted. Your library is truly a community-based center -  welcoming people of all ages and types, providing a myriad of services, and employing helpful staff to support patrons and their needs.
