Channahon Fire Handles Bad I-55 Wreck Early Sunday

Lifestar Medevac responded to the crash that prompted the closure of north bound lanes on I-55 at mile marker 249.

CHANNAHON, IL - Two pickup trucks were involved in a bad crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 near Channahon around 12:45 a.m. early Sunday morning. The collision caused one of the trucks to strike a guardrail, and that guard rail penetrated the inside passenger compartment of that particular vehicle, according to the Channahon Fire Protection District. Channahon fire crews responded to the scene and were able to extricate the passenger about 30 minutes later. Lifestar's Medevac helicopter was called to the wreck and airlifted the victim to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.

In a press release issued Monday, Channahon's fire district said it did not know medical condition of the injured person at this time. The Illinois State Police is the lead agency investigating the crash, the fire district reported.

All told, Channahon's fire and EMS crews spent about 70 minutes at the scene helping with rescue efforts. Troy and Minooka Fire also responded to the scene of the crash.
