CHANNAHON, IL — Only two weeks after being released from the Will County Jail on knife-wielding charges at the Channahon State Park, 19-year-old village resident Joseph Olson is back in detention after trying to shoot someone over the weekend, according to police reports.

Olson is being charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated discharge of a firearm. A 9mm handgun was recovered as well along with other items, according to Channahon's Deputy Police Chief Adam Bogart.

On Monday, Bogart provided Joliet Patch with the incident summary of Saturday evening's arrest of Olson, who sometimes lives in the shed at his grandparents' property in the 25300 block of South Friar Street, according to Olson's previous arrest warrant issued in September by a Will County judge.

Around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Channahon police were sent to Bridge Street and Blackberry Lane for a possible domestic altercation. A person at the scene told Channahon officers that "during a conversation with Olson, Olson pointed a firearm at this individual and fired one shot. Olson then fled through the Channahon State Park."

According to police reports, Olson also had an argument with the same person and others starting as early as 7 a.m.

Evidence from Olson's shooting incident has been recovered, Bogart noted.

Officers recovered a shell casing from the area of where witnesses say Olson discharged the firearm, and a 9 mm gun was recovered as well, Bogart noted.

Channahon Police found Olson at his residence where he was taken into custody without incident.

On Sept. 28, Joliet Patch published the following headline involving Olson: "Knife At Channahon State Park Leads To 8 Charges For Local Teen."

In that case, Patch reported that the 19-year-old Channahon resident had bonded out of the Will County Jail following his arrest by Illinois Conservation Police in connection with allegations he threatened to harm several people visiting the Channahon State Park on Aug. 8 while gripping a knife.
