Chickens Allowed In Channahon After Trustees' Vote
The Village Board in Channahon agreed to enact a pilot program for chicken ownership.

CHANNAHON, IL - Trustees in Channahon voted 4-2 this week to move forward with a pilot program that will allow some residents to own chickens and keep them on their property. The vote came after months of passionate discussion from those on both sides of the issue, the Herald-News reports.

Those in favor of the possibility brought up the benefits of raising chickens as a fun experience for children while opponents said the chickens would draw predators and cause unwanted sounds and smells.

The village enacted several restrictions to go with the pilot program, capping the number of chickens one family can own at four.
