Gary Man With Loaded Gun Arrested In Channahon, Police Say

The Channahon Police Department issued a press release Wednesday morning on Dontrail Dawson's arrest.

CHANNAHON, IL - A 23-year-old man from Gary, Indiana was arrested on Tuesday night by the Channahon Police Department on several charges including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Channahon Patrol Officer Michael Liebermann pulled Dontrail Dawson of Gary around 10:10 p.m. near Route 6 and Interstate 55. Channahon police say that Dawson, at first, provided the officer with a false name and erroneous date of birth. It turned out that Dawson had an active warrant out for his arrest in DuPage County.

After Dawson got out of the car and was handcuffed, Channahon police officers located a loaded gun under the driver's seat, according to police. There was also a box of ammunition in the car as well, police said. Dawson was put in the back of a squad car and delivered to the Will County Adult Detention Facility in Joliet. He has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, obstructing identification, driving with a suspended license and having no registration plate light.
