Heroin Overdose Claims Life Of Coal City Man

The Grundy County Coroner's Office issued a press release on Monday afternoon.

COAL CITY, IL - A 26-year-old man died in Coal City from an apparent heroin overdose and a woman from Wilmington who also overdosed at the house was revived, authorities said. The staff of Grundy County Coroner John W. Callahan is currently investigating Monday's early morning death of James Lee, who was found at the house in the 400 block of Oak Street.

"Coroner Callahan states he was called to a residence in Coal City for the death of James Lee of Coal City," a press statement provided to Joliet Patch reads. "There was evidence at the scene that supports the use of heroin.

"There was a female individual from Wilmington that had overdosed but EMS was able to administer drugs, and she was transported to" the Morris Hospital emergency room. "This individual confirmed the use of heroin," Callahan stated.

The autopsy on Lee took place Monday. The final cause and manner of death are awaiting toxicology screens.

As for heroin, "Callahan states this is a deadly drug and Grundy County is no different from any other county. Through this news release and awareness programs, we hope to try and save the lives of others."
