Minooka Arrests Teen For School Threats

Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer issued a press release around lunch time Tuesday.

MINOOKA, IL - Last week, the Minooka Police chief and the superintendent of Minooka's elementary schools issued a joint press release after there were a barrage of rumors on social media related to threats of school violence. On Tuesday, Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer issued a press release announcing that a 16-year-old juvenile has been taken to jail on charges of disorderly conduct involving threats against the high school. The 16-year-old, according Minooka Police, had been posting threats on social media toward Minooka High School.

That teen is now in custody and was taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center in St. Charles.

"This incident is in relation to the email the Minooka Community School District 111 issued last night in regards to the investigation regarding the disturbing communication," Meyer announced on Tuesday. "

"Based on the investigation, our agency, with the assistance of the Kendall County State's Attorney, determined it to be in the best interest that the juvenile be arrested."

Meyer also urged parents "to use this as an opportunity to discuss with your children about what they post on social media and that it can have serious consequences that could affect them for the rest of their lives."
