Minooka Grade School District Cuts $768,000 from 2013-14 Budget
Because the Minooka Grade School District is self-insured, the district has been able to build up a surplus in the health insurance fund, and that has allowed superintendent Al Gegenheimer and his team to weather the financial storm.
The creative touch of Minooka Grade School District Superintendent Al Gegenheimer and his planning team have helped the district find a way to cut $768,000 from its 2013-14 budget, according to a Sun-Times News Group report.
Nearly two-thirds of that total—$500,000—will come from transferring money from the district's health insurance fund to the education fund, according to Kris Stadalsky's report in The Herald News.
The district has been able to build up a surplus in the health insurance fund since it became self-insured. This has enabled to district to pay the majority of claims directly instead of paying an insurance compay.

"We are always trying to find a little something tweak, but we really don't have a lot more to trim," Gegenheimer said in the Sun-Times News Group report.
He said the district has a per pupil operating cost of $7,495. That is well under the state average of $12,000.
