In what began with the MCHS Class of 2013’s Charles Tierney, continued with the MCHS Class of 2014’s John Kauffman, and most recently with the MCHS Class of 2015’s Lily Being, junior Conrad Goffinet’s perfect composite score of 36 on the ACT has cemented his place (representing the MCHS Class of 2016) in continuing the tradition of graduating academic classes that boast a member to accomplish such a feat.
While Goffinet’s previous efforts on the ACT had yielded near-perfect results with composite scores of 35, his most recent effort was not actually focused on a perfect overall score, but on one specific component of the test.

“I wasn’t really focusing on anything other than the writing component of the test,” said Goffinet, son of Scott and Kimberly Goffinet of Shorewood. “I was so focused on that part of the test that I got a bit anxious with the science component. I thought my score actually went down.”
After learning that several of his friends had received their scores and he had not yet received his, Goffinet went online to check his results.
“I was excited when I saw it,” he said. “I was very, very excited.”
He then called his father and mother, only to learn that his mother had actually received his scores that day, but was waiting to give the envelope to him to open. They all celebrated the impressive accomplishment with dinner that evening.
As for continuing this “perfect” tradition that began with the MCHS Class of 2013, Goffinet is proud to have a place in MCHS history with such elite company.
“It is an honor to carry the torch, so to speak,” he said. “I’m proud to carry on the tradition, and I’m proud to represent my class in this aspect of school history.”
While he was already looking at several exclusive schools, Goffinet knows that earning a 36 on the ACT does make a difference when it comes to college admissions.
“I would like to become a mechanical, chemical, or electrical engineer,” he said. “This score might make my admissions case a little bit stronger, so I am anxious to see what my options are.”
Goffinet is currently weighing four options for schools, including MIT, Northeastern, Stanford and Vanderbilt.
As a junior, Goffinet still has another year of high school to enjoy prior to graduation. He plans to do just that, as he will continue to focus on his academics, but also continue participating in lacrosse and Speech Team. He will also continue to play keyboards for the band he is currently in, The Meandering Cranberries.
