MINOOKA, IL — Minooka Community Consolidated District 201 Superintendent Kris Monn announced Sunday that students who attend his grade schools and junior high buildings will no longer be required to wear masks in light of Friday's ruling by Sangamon County Judge Raylene Grischow.

Monn's letter to parents and families noted that "the judge has deemed the governor’s executive orders and subsequent rules from the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Public Health requiring the mitigations above to be 'null and void.'"

Starting immediately, Minooka District 201 schools and facilities will be "mask recommended" under this current ruling, Monn announced.

"We do highly recommend staff and students wear masks in alignment with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Illinois Department of Public Health, but masks are optional," Monn said.

Masks are still required to be worn on any school bus transportation due to the federal CDC order.

Also, Minooka District 201 said it will not be contact tracing nor excluding close contacts. Students and staff who test positive will continue to be excluded from school, the administration announced.

Moving forward, staff members who are unvaccinated will not be required to test weekly.

Testing for symptomatic students and staff will still be available.
