Minooka Woman Dies On I-80 After Hitting Semi

The semi was stopped on I-80 because of an unrelated crash that had tied up traffic, police said.

MINOOKA, IL - A 28-year-old woman from Minooka died Saturday morning when her car struck the back of a semi-tractor trailer along Interstate 80 east of Ridge Road in Troy Township. The crash victim was Julie A. McKinney, the Will County Coroner's Office noted.

According to the coroner's staff, McKinney was driving eastbound along I-80, in the Minooka area, when she struck the back end of a semi. The fatality occurred at Mile Marker 125. The Illinois State Police issued a press release indicating that the crash happened at 8:27 a.m. and the fatality victim was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The semi was a 2005 Freightliner truck tractor with a semi-trailer.

Illinois State Police said the Freightliner was in the left lane of I-80 going eastbound toward Joliet "when it was forced to stop because of stopped traffic from a prior crash ahead," state police announced. However, the woman driving the Nissan, McKinney, "failed to stop and crashed into the back into the rear of Unit Two's trailer."
