Bryan Ogrizovich is the newest member of the Troy Community School District 30-C school board, chosen by the board and seated at the district’s August school board meeting.

Ogrizovich replaces board member J. Terry McFadden, who had served as an active member of the school board for more than 40 years until his death in June.

Troy Superintendent Dr. Todd Koehl said of the candidates who applied to fill McFadden’s seat, Ogrizovich best met the mission and vision of the district.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Ogrizovich to the Troy Board of Education,” Koehl said. “In the interview process, he proved to be very genuine in his commitment to serving our community. We look forward to his contribution to our district and his vision for our students.”

A Shorewood native, Ogrizovich attended Troy 30-C schools, kindergarten through eighth-grade. He said he has long wanted to become more active in the community - education in particular - and having such strong ties with Troy made his decision to apply for the open school board position an easy one.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge,” he said.

Ogrizovich also has ties to McFadden, whose board seat he occupies. McFadden’s wife Susan was his fourth-grade teacher, and Ogrizovich was in Troy band with one of McFadden’s sons.

Ogrizovich said he will spend his first weeks in the position learning more about the seven-school district and helping guide it through the extraordinary period of educating during a pandemic and the subsequent term of virtual learning. His future goals include investigating additional career tract explorations for eighth-grade students.

“I think Troy is head and shoulders above other grade schools,” he said, “not only in education, but also in the extracurricular activities it offers. I think it prepares its students well for high school and for their future.”

Ogrizovich is a firefighter and has taught fire science at a junior college level. He has also brought fire safety classes to Troy schools. His wife is a teacher, and they have three children who have attended or are currently attending Troy schools.

Ogrizovich will hold his school board position until the next public election in March 2021. At that time, he can choose to run for a new four-year term or decline to run.
