Notorious Killer Christopher Vaughn Moved To Medium Security
Vaughn, who killed his wife and three children, was moved out of maximum security for good behavior.
OSWEGO, IL — A Kendall County newspaper is reporting that notorious Will County killer Christopher Vaughn, who has been locked away from society since 2007, is now being incarcerated at the Pinckneyville Correctional Center, a medium-security prison, as a result of good behavior during his time at the maximum security prison in Menard.
According to Joe Hosey of Kendall County Now, Vaughn's transfer by the Illinois Department of Corrections from the prison in Menard to the medium-security facility in Pinckneyville occurred this week. Twelve years ago next week, on June 14, 2007, Vaughn killed his wife Kimberly, 34, and children Abigayle, 12; Cassandra, 11; and Blake, 8.
The Vaughns lived in Oswego but the killings occurred near Channahon.

According to Patch's 2012 murder trial coverage, Vaughn fatally shot everyone in his family on a secluded stretch of the Interstate 55 frontage road just outside Channahon. He pulled the family's Ford Expedition over, got out under the guise of checking a cargo compartment on the roof of the SUV, grabbed his wife through the open passenger window, stuck a pistol under her chin and shot her, prosecutors told the courtroom in 2012.
The children were each shot once in the head and once in the chest. Vaughn then shot himself in the thigh and tried to pin the killings on his wife. He planned to take off and live in the Yukon wilderness after the killings, prosecutors said.
