A dark pool of water—calm, undisturbed, its surface like polished glass, so clear as to give no clue to its true depth.

A stone is tossed; the water responds perfectly, no more—no less, and then settles back to its placid stillness.

Mizu no Kokoro is one of the many intangible goals of training in a classical Japanese budō.
