Troy students receive Joliet Chamber Hawk Scholarships

Awards sponsored by Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Education Committee

Troy Community School District 30-C is pleased to announce that five of its students were chosen by the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry to receive Hawk Scholarships.

The scholarships of $1,000 each were awarded to students Vivian Abbott (William B. Orenic Intermediate School), Zachary Harrison (W.B.O. Intermediate School), Hudson Howard (Troy Heritage Trail Elementary School), Gabriel Roeske (Troy Craughwell Elementary School) and Grace Smith (Troy Middle School).

“The generosity of Hawk Auto and our community coupled with the hard work of these students makes a deposit in the students’ college savings accounts,” Troy Superintendent Dr. Todd Koehl said. “This simple idea of paying the scholarship forward represents the impact the Joliet Chamber has on education in our community.”

Each year 46 elementary students are awarded $1,000 scholarships from public and Catholic elementary and middle schools in Troy, Joliet, Laraway, Elwood, Rockdale and Channahon school districts to encourage them to attend college. The chamber’s scholarship program was created in 2014 to inspire and encourage fourth- through eighth-grade students to go beyond high school education through recognition and financial reward for academic performance and community service. When it comes time, the scholarship money will be sent to the college or university the student has chosen to attend.
