Warrior Dash is This Weekend

Residents in and may notice more people hanging around town on Saturday and Sunday. About 30,000 people are expected to head to in Channahon for Warrior Dash. 

According to the race event coordinators, there are up to 30,000 people scheduled to arrive in the Channahon area over the weekend.

As was the case , the races start at 8 a.m. and the last event starts at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.  

Channahon Police announced the following traffic pattern changes, which will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

• Ridge Road from Route 6 to Hansel Road – One-way South only
• Hansel Road from Ridge Road to McLinden Road – One-way West
• McLinden Road from Hansel Road to Route 6 – One-way North

Signs have already been placed in the area announcing these changes. 

In addition, the Keating Point and Woods of AuxSable subdivisions will be closed to all but emergency vehicles and residents during the event. Police, fire and EMS workers will use these areas to coordinate services. The Channahon Police Department will have officers stationed at intersections in the area of the race to direct traffic. As was the case last year, Minooka Police will be assisting in traffic control and emergency services.

"It wasn’t too much of an issue," Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer said. "They come in waves.

"Some people just stick around for the event and leave on their own."

Residents in nearby subdivisions were concerned last year about traffic and noise. But those who weighed in on Channahon-Minooka's Facebook Page , said last year the event went smoothly.

"We live a mile east of there," A reader named Jean said. "Last year, we had absolutely no problems, nor were we affected by the extra traffic due to the designated traffic pattern."
