Wilmington Man Dies After Car Hits Concrete Barrier

The 28-year-old was killed Sunday night in one of multiple fatal crashes in Will County.

WILMINGTON, IL — A 28-year-old Wilmington man died Sunday night after his vehicle struck a concrete barrier near southbound I-55 and River Road. Illinois State Police said Anthony Halko was the only occupant in a 2013 Nissan Sentra traveling at a high rate of speed on the I-55 ramp when, for unknown reasons, it failed to stop at a stop sign at the top of the ramp at around 9:44 p.m.

Police said Halko's vehicle continued across North River Road, where it struck a concrete barrier head on.

Halko was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.
