• Charleston firefighters receive lifesaving awards at City Council meeting (dailyeasternnews.com) — Charleston residents will see higher ambulance, water, and sewer rates starting May 1 after the City Council approved a $42.5 million budget and updated fee schedules. The meeting also honored Charleston firefighters and EMS crews whose quick work helped save resident Edward Adams’ life after a cardiac emergency in March.
   

• Softball Travels to Eastern Illinois for Final OVC Road Series (tsutigers.com) — Eastern Illinois University will host Tennessee State in a three-game Ohio Valley Conference softball series in Charleston this Friday and Saturday, giving local fans a chance to see late-season conference action. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Friday, followed by a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
