• Warm, wet conditions mean more mosquitoes than usual observed in south, southwest suburbs (chicagotribune.com) — Chicago Ridge is currently listed as a mosquito hotspot, and local abatement crews have recently sprayed the village along with nearby suburbs because of unusually warm, wet weather. Officials report elevated mosquito activity and some West Nile cases statewide, urging residents to use repellent, wear long sleeves when possible, and remove standing water around homes and businesses to cut down on breeding sites.
