1 Year Since Death Of Kenneka Jenkins In Rosemont Hotel Freezer
A vigil was held Sunday for the 19-year-old who was found dead in a hotel a year ago.

CHICAGO — Monday marks one year since 19-year-old Kenneka Jenkins was found dead inside a hotel freezer in Rosemont. Her death was ruled an accident; however her family is calling for an independent investigation into her death.
Jenkins' family held a vigil on Sunday outside the Crowne Plaza Hotel, where the young woman was found dead inside the walk-in freezer last year. Another gathering was planned Monday in remembrance of the teen.
The investigation into the 19-year-old's death was closed in October of 2017 after the Cook County medical examiner's office and the Rosemont Public Safety Department concluded her death was an accident, caused by hypothermia from cold exposure.

An autopsy concluded that alcohol and a drug used to treat epilepsy and migraines were "significant contributing factors." There were no signs of trauma to her body, authorities said. Dozens of photos, surveillance images and documents were released to the public to support authorities' findings.
Jenkins' mother, Tereasa Martin, is calling for an independent investigation into what led to her daughter's death. The 19-year-old's family has previously called for an FBI investigation, but the agency has not become involved.
