100 Degree Heat Index, Severe Storms Possible Tuesday In Illinois

A heat advisory has been issued until 8 p.m. for Cook and Will counties.

ILLINOIS — The Chicago area could see peak heat index values of 105 degrees on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. There is also a possibility of severe weather in the early afternoon, the weather service said.

Tuesday will be hot and humid, and the northern and western suburbs could see peak heat index values between 95 and 100 degrees, while the southwest and southern suburbs could see heat index values between 100 and 105 degrees, according to the weather service.

Due to the expected heat index values, a heat advisory has been issued until 8 p.m. Tuesday for Ogle, Lee, DaKalb, Kendall, southern Cook and Will counties.

Storms on Tuesday could bring a threat of damaging winds, the weather service said. Quarter-sized hail and winds strong enough to down tree limbs are possible Tuesday afternoon, mainly north of Interstate 80, according to the weather service.

The heat and humidity will also continue on Wednesday, which could again have heat index values over 100 degrees.

More showers and storms are possible Tuesday evening and into Wednesday, the weather service said.
