2 Chicago Bakeries Rated For Best Apple Pie In America: Report

"We must have a pie. Stress cannot exist in the presence of a pie."

CHICAGO, IL -- What's more American than a delicious slice of apple pie? If you're wondering where to get the best pie in Chicago, The Daily Meal food and drink website has you covered. Bakeries across the United States made the list, including two spots in Chicago: First Slice and Hoosier Mama.

Hoosier Mama Pie Company has two locations in the Chicago area: one in the West Town neighborhood, and another in Evanston. All the produce from the bakery's pies comes from local farmers. You won’t find any of their handmade pies for sale in supermarkets--they’re all about being local, and their pies aren't available for shipping. The bakery's classic apple pie is a two-crust pie that's “not too sweet, with more fruit than goo in a delicious buttery crust.”

Here are some of the company's favorite pie quotes, listed on their website:

First Slice Pie Café has locations in Ravenswood, Manor, Andersonville, and Evanston. The cafe works in connection with First Slice, a nonprofit founded by owner Mary Ellen Diaz over a decade ago that makes hand-cooked meals for the homeless. Many Yelp reviewers have said it's the best pie they've ever had.

The Daily Meal food and drink editors scoured the internet for “best pie” lists, as well as great reviews, to come up the list. The winning pie spots span the country from Massachusetts to Washington state, with stops along the way in Illinois and New Mexico.
