2 Cops Shot At Chicago Hospital, Suspect In Custody: Officials

CHICAGO, IL — Two Chicago police officers were injured in a shooting at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital on Saturday, according to officials. A suspect is in custody.

Alderman Jim Gardiner confirmed the police officers were shot at the hospital located at 5145 N. California Ave. in Chicago's Ravenswood neighborhood.

The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m., Gardiner said.

While official details surrounding the shooting remain unclear, a WGN-TV report citing police sources said the shooting occurred while officers were transporting a prisoner either to or from the hospital.

Alderman Andre Vasquez said a second incident connected to the shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the 2600 block of West Winona Street.

A suspect was later taken into custody, Vasquez confirmed. One of the officers is in critical condition, he added.

The area is still blocked off as it is a crime scene under investigation," Vasquez said. "Please shelter in place if you are in the surrounding area or avoid the area."
