Chicago is the place to be on the nation's hottest weekend of the year. But the city has much more than just fireworks to offer.

Chicago, IL - The city of Chicago offers loads to do on every weekend of the summer. With the Fourth of July holiday coming on Monday, this one is surely no exception. Here are five options for fun in America's favorite summer city.

  • Navy Pier Fireworks: The fireworks show traditionally held on July 3 at Navy Pier has recently moved to the date of the holiday. A freedom festival is also planned that day. It will open to the public at 10 a.m., but pier officials are expecting a full capacity. The gates will close at that time.
  • African-Caribbean International Festival of Life: Union Park hosts the 22nd annual edition of this festival, which offers more than 70 musical acts. Reggae, Pop, R&B and Gospel included. One day admission starts at $45. It’s $189 for all four days of the festival (July 1-4).
  • Windy City RibFest: Smell the greatness for just a $5 donation at the door. The festival begins Friday and runs through Sunday on Broadway in the Uptown/Andersonville neighborhoods on the North Side. Vendors include the BBQ King Smokehouse and Texas Lightning BBQ.
  • Urbano Black Party: Hip hop fans will delight at this event, beginning at Midnight Saturday at the Metro.
  • Independence Day Dinner Fireworks Show: Both the Spirit of Chicago and Odyssey have fireworks cruises planned on the Fourth of July.
