62-Year-Old Man Dies Two Weeks After Street Altercation: Chicago Police

The victim fell and hit his head on the sidewalk after being punched, cops said.

CHICAGO, IL -- A 62-year-old man died nearly two weeks after being injured in an altercation on the city's Near West Side.

Robert Crenshaw was reportedly found unresponsive at around 1:40 p.m. Feb. 28 in the 1500 block of West Hastings. Police said he was socializing with a group of males when he was involved in an altercation.

During the argument, an unknown male suspect punched Crenshaw in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the sidewalk, according to police. The suspect fled the scene, and Crenshaw was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. He was just shy of his 62nd birthday at the time of the incident.

Crenshaw was pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m. March 12, nearly two weeks after the assault.

Area Central detectives are investigating the incident as a homicide.
