70 MPH Winds, Heavy Rain, Flooding Possible for Chicago Area Tonight

Severe thunderstorms are expected across northern Illinois Saturday evening and overnight.

Scattered thunderstorms, including some severe storms, are expected to move across the Chicago area Saturday afternoon and will continue into the evening. The storms could bring half-dollar-sized hail, 70 mph winds, heavy rain and flash flooding. There is a limited tornado risk associated with these storms, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued for the Chicago area.

The storms should move in this afternoon with more widespread thunderstorms expected later this evening and into the overnight hours across all of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.

The National Weather Service is predicting the most likely timing for severe weather will be between 6 and 11 p.m. Saturday. Area residents are encouraged to keep a close eye on the latest forecast updates throughout the afternoon and evening.
