Authorities say the assault occurred in a secluded off-trail area near the parking lot, and the victim was treated at Swedish Covenant Hospital and released. The suspect, identified as John G. Lang, is being held without bail, according to officials.
2. Passenger Tried To Breach Cockpit On United Flight From Chicago: Reports (patch.com) — Travelers from Chicago O’Hare may be interested that a United Airlines flight to Minneapolis made an emergency landing in Madison after a passenger repeatedly tried to breach the cockpit, according to federal officials. The Boeing 737-900, carrying 147 passengers and six crew, landed safely, the unruly passenger was detained by authorities, and the flight later continued to its destination without reported injuries.
3. Bears stadium talks drag to final hours as lawmakers mull taxes on prediction markets, crypto to seal budget (suntimes.com) — State lawmakers are racing this weekend to finalize a budget and decide whether to offer tax breaks that could keep the Chicago Bears from leaving the city for Arlington Heights or even Indiana. Chicago officials are pushing for investments in Soldier Field and the Museum Campus, while new statewide taxes on digital ads, crypto, and prediction markets are also on the table.
4. Tollway worker killed doing repairs on I-294 ID'd by authorities (nbcchicago.com) — A 52-year-old Chicago man working for the Illinois Tollway was killed early Saturday while repairing potholes on I-294 in Des Plaines, and two coworkers were injured. Southbound lanes were shut down for hours, and state officials are urging Chicago-area drivers to obey Illinois’ Move Over Law to protect roadway workers.
5. Chicago raises final toast to Schlitz as the iconic beer is discontinued (fox32chicago.com) — Chicago beer lovers packed Bridgeport’s Electric Funeral Bar to buy the last local cases of Schlitz and reminisce about a brand woven into the city’s bar history. With Schlitz discontinued by Pabst, many Chicagoans see the farewell as the end of an era that began with post–Great Fire deliveries and iconic tied houses across the city.
